Nevin Aladağ
About
The artist has a diverse portfolio of sculpture, video, performance, photography and site-specific installations. Aladağ says, the experiences she grew up in Germany led her to seek new languages, to seek associations and substitutions; to disrupt social and other boundaries with metaphors and other similar means. The artist, who frequently prefers materials such as carpets, fabrics, curtains and mirrors in her works, deals with social and political issues such as identity formations within cultures and immigrant lives. Aladağ, who participated in many artist residency programs, also received the Ernst-Rietschel Art Award (Sculpture) and George Maciunas. Her works were included in exhibitions of important instutitions such as SFMOMA (San Francisco, USA), Hayward Gallery (London, UK), Museum Mönchehaus (Goslar, Germany), Kestner Gesellschaft (Hanover, Germany), Albertinum, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen (Dresden (Germany), Lentos Kunstmuseum Linz (Austria), Arter (Istanbul, Turkey), Tanas (Berlin, Germany), The Miah Line (New York), Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art (Kansas City,Missouri) Open Spaces O18 (Kansas City, Missouri), documenta 14 (Kassel and Athens) 57th Venice Biennale, 11th Sharjah Biennial, 11th Istanbul Biennial, 8th Taipei Biennial and 14th International Carrara Sculpture Biennial.
