About
Gülnihal Yıldız's paintings are essentially an intuitive exploration of memory and sensation; she focuses only on the making of the painting rather than the story and narrative. Her paintings (the main medium in which she works) are made either departing from certain given forms existing within a memory pool, or from the coincidental nature of the paint itself. In her paintings, she often works through by means of a lack of paint, revealing empty spaces where the paper or the canvas gets exposed, similarly to how memory functions during filling in the gaps with the act of remembering. Yıldız studied her BA in Plastic Arts and Painting at Yeditepe University in İstanbul. She worked as an artist assistant to painter Komet between 2019 and 2022. Her works have been exhibited in various group exhibitions. She lives and works in Istanbul.
