Gökhan Balkan

Born in Istanbul in 1974, the artist completed his business administration education in Paris with a BM degree in 1997 and an MBA degree in 2000, and in 2012, he joined Işık University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Painting Department. In 2015, after submitting his master's thesis titled "Post-human: End of Social Construction of the Body, Bio-Constructive Art", he is still continuing his doctorate program "Science of Art" in Işık University Fine Arts Faculty.

While Balkan focuses on the visualization of posthuman body, society and urban phenomena, Balkan questions the anthropocene ideology and fiction of life in the context of 'posthumanism'. The artist works are based on the understanding of art that is focused on participation and sharing which have subjects such as solidified human body within the social texture and multiple formations sprouting in the spaces of life and culture.

The artist has published articles and statements on New Media and Virtual Reality, Relational Aesthetics and Art with Social Content, Post-Human Situation and so on.
Balkan continues his work and life in Istanbul, Turkey.
