Selim Süme

In his recent works, Selim Süme puts the everyday and the ordinary at the centre.
He explores the tension of the most basic impulses with his photographs. He looks at what is close to us such as life, love, home, family, fatherhood, sex, politics, gender, friendship and death.
Working on the political and aesthetic relationship of these seemingly ordinary moments in the grainy space between coincidence and fiction, the artist is working on a long-term subjective documentary.

Süme holds a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Yıldız Technical University and completed his master's and proficiency in art programmes at Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Photography. Süme, whose works have been exhibited in different institutes, galleries and biennials, has published artist books titled 289KD (Reccollective, 2009), Tekerrür (Reccollective, 2016) and Vesika (Reccollective, 2019). He is also one of the founding members of Reccollective and Bandrolsüz collectives.

Selim Süme continues to live and work in Vienna.
