About
Seda Gazioğlu (1991, İstanbul, TR) studied Fine Arts at Parsons University in New York, and Central Saint Martins in London. Gazioğlu now lives and works in Istanbul, where she has exhibited in several venues since returning in 2014. Her works focus predominantly on ideas of consciousness and the self, and a recent interest in neuroscience has led to new works exploring the different functions of the two hemispheres of the human brain. Gazioğlu questions how rigid social systems affect and even predestine how our brains function in our everyday lives. She examines the construction of the ego and the desire for control, as well as the struggle of the other "I" that strains to separate and find enlightenment. She works across a range of different mediums, including large scale sculpture of metal welding, painting, ink drawings, and video.
