Louis Gary

Louis Gary’s approach to art is playful, and his workmanship is both daring and impeccable. He creates a junked up universe where the sculptures are arranged in a syntax unknown to us and in which their narrative is intertwined with a clumsy psychoanalysis that links together the grotesque, poetry and black humor.

In order to express the magnitude of a superior quality handmade object, the artist introduces colour in such a precise and straightforward way it almost seems as if the shapes arise from it. He also recently picked up again his photographic practice with which he recreates the sensitive background of his work, and anchors it in a history of forms that plays its own ambiguities without irony. Contemplation, the supernatural, the carnival : the multiplicity of forces summoned offers a lookout - to those who are watching - into a new consideration of the world, of the gestures and of the things.

Born in 1982, Louis Gary studied at the Ecole Régionale des Beaux-Arts in Nantes, at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie in Arles and at the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Marseille. He recently was subject to some solo exhibitions at the Confort Moderne, Poitiers (FR), at the High Gallery, Poznan (PL), at the Villa Belleville and at the Maison Rouge – Fondation Antoine de Galbert, Paris (FR). Louis Gary currently lives and works in Burgundy.
